J K Rowling ger ut sina egna böcker

"Rowling stands to make significantly more money by selling her e-books directly than if she sold them through her publisher. Authors generally get anywhere between a few and 10 percent of royalties from printed book sales and anywhere between 20 and 40 percent on e-books. If they self publish through the likes of Amazon, they can get as much as 70 percent of revenues (with the remainder going to the e-book store). Selling direct to fans also means that Rowling will benefit from demographic data and contact details traditionally safeguarded by the publisher or retailer. This information will be invaluable for promoting new projects and for building a mini merchandising empire. Might we even see sales to a ´live´ Harry Potter experience?"

"Everyone loves a juicy news bite. But before you decide that ebooks rule and print is dead and it's time to self-publish your magnum opus online, there's a bit more to be said about all these stories.
The ´Gatekeepers´ article does something that many discussions of the seismic changes that are rocking the publishing world too often seem to do: it takes several non-typical examples, and, either by implication or omission, makes it seem as if they can apply to anyone. The authors discussed in the article are successful, established writers--in some cases, best selling writers--who possessed substantial platforms and self-promotional savvy before deciding to bypass their commercial publishers and self-publish. These are advantages that your average debut author, who must begin from scratch, or your long-time midlister, whose small audience is mainly characterized by the fact that it never gets much bigger, don't possess. What Seth Godin can do, in other words, probably isn't what you can do."

Reklam i e-böcker?

"For authors, it's something to keep an eye on so it doesn't sneak up on us. It may be inevitable, but I think we need to fight to keep it from disrupting the reading experience; otherwise it'll go the way of American television, where you can barely blink before there's another ad break."
Jurgen Wolff.

"I like the people, but I can't abide the long wait, the filters, the big push at launch, the nudging to get people to go to a store they don't usually visit to buy something they don't usually buy, to get them to pay for an idea in a form that's hard to spread. I really don't think the process is worth the effort that it now takes to make it work. I can reach 10 or 50 times as many people electronically."

Barnes & Noble bjuder på gratis e-läsning i sommar

"The Barnes & Noble promotion, which began on Monday, and will run for five weeks, gives a free redeemable code each week for one book. The catch is that you must bring your electronic device into a Barnes & Noble store to get the code. The device can be an iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, BlackBerry, HTC HD2, PC or Mac (I assume they prefer a laptop to your desktop computer) or B.&N.’s own electronic reader, the Nook.
The first book is ´The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency´ by Alexander McCall Smith. Other titles to be offered include ´The Long Tail´ by Chris Anderson, ´Home Safe´ by Elizabeth Berg, ´Storm Front´ by Jim Butcher, and ´One Shot´ by Lee Child."

Storförlagen förlorar i längden

"Apple® today announced that it sold its one millionth iPad™ on Friday, just 28 days after its introduction on April 3. iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore."

"Publishing is a market strategy".
